Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has dropped a major hint on his future amid growing interest from Chelsea. The 33-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge as Thomas Tuchel looks to bolster his strike force.
Thomas Tuchel is in the market for a new striker before the summer transfer window slams shut and the Barcelona forward has dropped a major hint.
Sportztales understand that talks with Barcelona over the striker’s sale are ongoing, though it remains to be seen whether the former Arsenal captain favours a move to west London. It’s said that the Blues boss is eager to reunite with the Gabon international who prospered under his stewardship at Borussia Dortmund.
Tuchel has specifically identified Aubameyang as a priority signing before the transfer window slams shut. But, despite the German’s wish, it looks as if the striker could be staying put at the Camp Nou this summer.
Aubameyang, who is valued at £12.7million by CIES Football Observatory, has posted a picture to his Instagram story of himself by a swimming pool while wearing Barcelona shorts. With a ‘sunglasses face’ emoji’, the image is captioned: “Good morning.”
Regardless of whether the Blues are confident or not of completing a deal, the west Londoners have a roadblock in their way. Speaking to Spanish outlet AS, Barcelona boss Xavi has insisted that he has full confidence that he can count on the striker amid a potential exit.
“I count 100% on Auba”, the Barcelona head coach said. It’s believed that the Spaniard sees the striker as a key figure in the Catalan side’s front-three this season – even following the arrival of Robert Lewandowski.
Tuchel has also spoken on the sage when asked of Aubameyang in a pre-match press-conference ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur. The German said: “I enjoyed a lot working with him [at Borussia Dortmund]. It was a pleasure. This has nothing to do with the situation now, but players stay your players because you work very, very close. Auba is one of these players.
“We had a very close relationship. Always when we played him here with Arsenal, there was always straight away this close bond. They always stay your players in a way, Auba is one of these guys.”
