Daniil Medvedev was glad that he was able to start his US Open campaign with a convincing win as he noted the conditions were pretty tricky on the opening day in New York. On Monday, first-seeded Medvedev saw off American Stefan Kozlov 6-2 6-4 6-0 to easily progress into the second round.

During the match, Medvedev lost his serve twice but it didn’t impact the outcome of the match since he was able to break Kozlov for a total of eight times. “I am pleased to win. Not easy conditions. Pretty hot and humid here,” Medvedev said after his opening victory in New York, via the ATP website.

“I was sweating a lot but I thought there were some good points. I managed to be pretty solid and I thought the serve was key today. I am happy to go through to the second round”.

On Monday, 2012 US Open champion Murray was also in action.

Murray was also pretty convincing in his US Open first round match as he saw off Francisco Cerundolo 7-5 6-3 6-3. Like Medvedev, Murray noted the conditions were pretty tricky. “That felt like five sets to me! It’s very tricky conditions today, very humid and hot.

I was really happy with the way I got through that one. It was not easy. I knew I was going to have to play well, and I did in the important moments,” Murray said, per Tennis Majors

In the second round, Medvedev plays Arthur Rinderknech while Murray faces next Emilio Nava. This fortnight, Medvedev is aiming to defend his US Open title. On the other side, Murray is hoping to make his first deep Grand Slam run since 2017.

Murray, who has been mostly exiting Grand Slams early over the last few years, has a pretty favorable second round match since Nava is the 203rd-ranked player in the world.
