Ruthless Bayelsa Queens Defeat Ampem Darkoa, Qualify For 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League


Nigeria Women Football League side,Bayelsa Queens have booked their place at this year’s CAF women’s Champions League, after thrashing Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies 3-0 in the final of the WAFU Zone B qualifiers in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire on Saturday, Completesports.com reports.

First half goals from Miracle Joseph, Falconets star Flourish Sabastine and Chinyere Igbomalu, saw Bayelsa Queens emerge champions and also qualification for this year’s CAF women’s Champions League in Morocco.

Joseph broke the deadlock in the 11th minute from the penalty spot before Sabastine added the second goal on 19 minutes.

And with three minutes left to play in the first half Igbomalu got the third goal to seal the win.

The Aiteo Cup holder  are now the second Nigerian team to participate at the CAF women’s Champions League, after Rivers Angels featured at last year’s maiden edition in Egypt.

Bayelsa Queens hammered Athleta 5-0 in their first group game before being held to a goalless draw by Ampem Darkoa.

In their final group game they defeated USFA 3-1 to finish second.

They thrashed Espoir 6-0 in the semi-finals before overcoming Ampem Darkoa in Saturday’s final.

Meanwhile, the seven teams who have qualified for the second edition of the CAF women’s Champions League are Bayelsa Queens, reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, Morocco’s AS FAR, Green Buffaloes of Zambia, Wadi Degla of Egypt, Liberia’s Determine Girls FC and Simba Queens of Tanzania.

The eight team will emerge from the Central African Football Federations (UNIFFAC) zone.
